Macedonian Minister of Health Azir Aliu in response to a media question regarding rare diseases stressed that the procedure for obtaining those medicines for patients with rare diseases has been changed.
“For the first time in our country, we are opening a three-year procedure for one purpose. As you know, every year this category of citizens who have a rare disease received their medication with a delay or, unfortunately, they waited for weeks or months,” Aliu said.
The health minister explains that the second point is that the patients are young, and it is very difficult to make an analysis in such a group of patients that will be accurate about the number of patients who will be served throughout the year.
“For this purpose, the methodology has changed and we are now opening a procedure for three years, which in case more is spent than the quantities that we will have as a state, we will have time to open another procedure, all with the aim of ensuring that citizens receive those medications on time,” Minister Aliu pointed out.
