We have launched “Safe City” – a project that saves lives and builds a safer future. “Safe City” is a project that has been talked about for a long time, and we have implemented it. Today, it represents one of the most important mechanisms for modernizing police work and protecting the lives of citizens, and the results already confirm this, said the Macedonian Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Monday.
Between February and June this year, the number of victims in traffic accidents went down by 40% – from 55 victims in the same period last year, to 34 this year, the Ministry of Interior adds.
Since the beginning of the system’s implementation, over 130,000 traffic violations have been recorded, and more than 95% of them relate to exceeding the speed limit. This clearly shows that the greatest danger on our roads is not the cameras – but irresponsible driving, says the MoI.
“We move forward with its implementation throughout the country, because our goal is not to issue more fines, but to have fewer traffic accidents, fewer lives lost and safer roads for everyone. “Safe City” is a technology that saves lives. Safety has no alternative,” reads the MoI’s press release.
