Orthodox Christians celebrate Palm Sunday on April 5. This holiday marks the last week before the beginning of Jesus’ suffering, death and Resurrection.

Palm Sunday is celebrated the day after Lazarus Saturday – the miraculous resurrection of Lazarus, who had been dead for four days, by Jesus Christ, on the sixth Sunday of Lent, one week before Easter. It is celebrated in memory of the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the city where he would be executed a few days later. When Christ entered Jerusalem, the people greeted him with shouts, spreading their garments at his feet and strewing the road with olive branches, welcoming him as a king.
