The extended holiday weekend has overloaded the country’s border crossings. A large number of Macedonian nationals decided to take advantage of the sun and free days and visit Greece. In the first 24 hours of the extended holiday weekend between Thursday and Friday, 6,864 citizens left for Greece through the Bogorodica border crossing.
“At the Bogorodica (Evzoni) border crossing from April 9, 2026 at noon to April 10 2026 at noon, 1,394 Macedonian nationals entered the country and 6,864 Macedonian citizens exited. As for foreign nationals, in the same period, 4,753 entered our country and 5,070 people left our country,” the Macedonian Ministry of Interior said in a press release.
But there was a even a greater crowd at the Tabanovce border towards Serbia, where 9,150 Macedonian national crossed this border in the past 24 hours.
At the Dojran border crossing towards Greece, in the same period 241 Macedonian nationals entered the country and 546 Macedonians left. As for foreign nationals, in the same period 1,212 entered the country and 1,114 left it.
At the Medzitlija border crossing also towards Greece, by Friday morning 129 Macedonian nationals entered the country and 832 Macedonian nationals left. As for foreigners, 3,347 entered Macedonia and 3,038 left the country.
The full implementation of the EU Entry System (EES) kicked off on Friday, introducing a new, digitalized way of recording and controlling citizens traveling for short-term stays from non-EU countries at the external borders of the European Union.
