More than 30 wildfires were registered yesterday, meaning their number isn’t dropping, Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) director Stojanche Angelov said Saturday urging citizens to exercise extreme caution.
“Yesterday we recorded more than 30 wildfires and their number isn’t dropping. That’s why once again I call on all citizens to exercise extreme caution because a single spark is enough for a disaster. Even though weather forecasters predict scattered showers in spots, vegetation is too dry, which is still a risk,” said Angelov.
In the region of the Municipality of Strumica yesterday, he said, four wildfires were registered, which were completely put out by the firefighters thanks to their prompt reaction thus preventing the fires from spreading to nearby settlements.
Regarding the wildfire on Mount Zheden, Angelov said blazes are spreading toward the village of Radusha, but it poses no direct threats to local settlements. He said he expected the fire to be put out by the end of the day.
Five wildfires are burning, and one is under control out of the 31 registered wildfires by 7:30 am. Twenty-five fires have been extinguished, said the Crisis Management Center (CMC) earlier Saturday.
