Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski believes that if the Constitution and laws allow it, he is not against limiting the possibility of MPs holding dual citizenship, as well as expanding the limitation to the executive branch and the country’s president. He says that he does not and does not plan to have any other citizenship, except Macedonian, and that such a limitation does not affect him in any way.

“If legal experts, legal and constitutional experts, say that there is no problem, then I absolutely support it. I do not have dual citizenship, nor do I intend to have dual citizenship. My citizenship is Macedonian and yes, let it be expanded if the law and the Constitution allow it, I have nothing against it,” said Mickoski in response to a reporter’s question after inspecting the reconstruction of the Universal Hall in Skopje.

Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who is also a professor of Constitutional Law, stated Monday that dual citizenship can be limited by law, but she said that this should not only apply to Members of Parliament, but also to the executive branch, i.e. ministers and the head of state.
