President Siljanovska-Davkova on Uprising Day: It is time to treat the country as a shared home

Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova extended a greeting Sunday on occasion of October 11 – National Uprising Day, with the message that the holiday is a testament that freedom is won with courage, justice requires steadfastness and sacrifice, and a state is built with labor, honor, and responsibility.

The Macedonian head of state stresses in her message that October 11 is not only an important historical date, but also an unforgettable and indelible memory and an eternal vow to preserve and develop the homeland.

“The insurgents from Prilep and Kumanovo, as well as all others, did not leave us only a glorious page from the past, but a testament that freedom is won with courage, that justice requires steadfastness and sacrifice, and that a state is built with labor, honor, and responsibility. Their heroic feat obligates us to be not only their grateful descendants, but also worthy guardians and defenders of their priceless work. Of course, today’s times impose different priorities, but the human thirst for justice, dignity, and a free life always remains an essential need,” the President stressed.

“It is time to treat the state as a shared home, where differences are not a reason for divisions, but a reason to learn from one another, to understand each other, and to build an awareness of the common good. We must build a legal and democratic state, as well as a civil society in which laws will apply to everyone, institutions will serve everyone, and everyone’s human dignity will be an inviolable value. Every generation has its test before history. Our test is not to recount, and even less to repeat the battles of our predecessors, but rather to bring their feats to life: with knowledge instead of ignorance; with law, ethics, and morality instead of arbitrariness; with unity instead of discord; with merit instead of political, partisan, and status privileges. We owe the insurgents and partisans the respect they earned by fighting and leaving us a country. We, on the other hand, have a political, economic, and civic obligation to build a democratic, legal, and prosperous European country,” the President added.
