Macedonian Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski, regarding the Safe City project, says that it is one of the most significant that has been implemented, turning it into one of the key mechanisms for improving security and modernizing police work.
Safe City included the modernization of the existing system in Skopje, Tetovo, Kumanovo, Corridors VIII and X and its expansion at the national level, through the introduction of modern technologies for video surveillance and automatic detection of traffic violations.
“The initial results of the system’s operation are particularly significant. Since the beginning of its implementation, on February 2, 2026, in the first five months, a decrease in the number of people killed in traffic accidents by 40 percent has been recorded, i.e. 33 people killed, compared to 55 in the same period of the previous year. By June 22, 2026, over 120,000 traffic violations were registered through the system, of which more than 95 percent relate to exceeding the permitted speed limit,” the Interior Minister noted.
