Macedonian Minister of Education and Science VesnaJanevska has revealed serious irregularities in the operation of some higher education institutes, pointing out that one of them was registered in the premises of a sports betting shop.
These are institutions that have so far had the right to issue diplomas recognized both in the country and abroad, which, according to Minister Janevska, raises serious questions about the quality and legitimacy of higher education.
“When the MES commission conducted inspections at one institute, it was registered in a betting shop – the back part, and it was supposed to perform its functions on two chairs and two mattresses. There are easier examples, and this is the most brutal. Under the name of a private institute, other functions are performed, such as the example with the betting shop. Hence, the criteria are not something that the minister or the working group invented,” said the minister.
Janevska announced that all institutes that do not meet the basic operating conditions will be shut down.
