Leader ofthe opposition SDSM, Venko Filipche, in his address at an international conference promoting the “Skopje Initiative”, organized by SDSM and the “Korchula High School of Politics”, said that ‘European integration is not just a political or strategic goal, but a long-standing generational dream that today has a real chance of being realized.’
“We have the opportunity not only to fulfill a strategic goal, but also to realize the long-standing dream of an entire generation. For some of us, the process of European integration began more than 25 years ago. Today it is entering a new and decisive phase, with a real and open opportunity for membership in the European Union, after years marked by stagnation and unfulfilled promises,” said Filipche.
The opposition leader notes that the European future is a choice that the citizens and countries of the region made a long time ago and which today once again has the opportunity to be realized.
The SDSM leader warned in his address that EU integration faces serious challenges and resistance from anti-European structures.
“Anti-European forces are more organized than ever before and determined to delay, if not completely prevent, European integration. Criminal networks, protected by retrograde political elites, fear the rule of law reforms brought about by European integration the most. Successful integration would significantly limit the gray areas in which they operate today,” Filipche added.
