All laws requiring Badinter majority will be put to a vote, Macedonian Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said Monday at a press briefing and added that he does not know what the outcome will be due to the procedural blockade of the opposition DUI.
Laws that require a Badinter majority, that is, which are of particular interest, are the law on fair representation, on higher education, on local self-government and others.
“This issue has more of a political dimension than a procedural one. In my capacity as Parliament Speaker, I am trying to take all measures. I am in contact with all parliamentary groups. We are trying to reach a solution. If the issue enters the political sphere, then it is discussed at another political level. I agree that this issue needs to be resolved, but I leave it to the political actors to resolve it,” said Gashi.
The deputy coordinator of the DUI MP group attended onday’s coordination meeting, but there was no announcement that there would be another blockade by their MPs.
“This is not a blockade, but an abuse of the Rules of Procedure, but we will see how they react,” said Gashi.
Regarding whether there would be early parliamentary elections if the blockade continued, Gashi said that such elections would take place when 61 MPs decide to dissolve the Parliament, but stressed that he was a supporter of the idea of regular parliamentary elections and will not allow the abuse of the Rules of Procedure to cause parliamentary elections.
