Our country will be one of the first country that will implement Starlink technology. The third mobile operator will use the Starlink’s network making it more competitive considering the service it provides, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said Sunday.
“Outside Ukraine, Macedonia and Montenegro will be one of the first where Starlink will be used directly. According to the information I have, it will be much cheaper than the two existing operators,” Nikoloski said in a social media post.
According to the concession agreement, they should cover at least one city in the country by March before becoming operational nationwide by the end of the year. They picked the city of Skopje, Nikoloski said.
The company describes this future technology as a means to provide broadband connectivity directly to mobile phones. The satellite service is intended to complement terrestrial mobile networks, particularly in areas with limited coverage or during temporary infrastructure outages.
The 4iG announcement does not specify a date for the launch of Starlink Mobile V2 in North Macedonia. The rollout timeline will depend on the regulatory, technical, and commercial conditions specific to each market.
Consequently, the timeline for the initial network coverage by the third operator and the future introduction of the satellite service are distinct steps. For users, the specific details will become clearer once the availability date, terms of use, and pricing are announced.
