The teams of the regional unit of PE Macedonian Forests are still in the field on Monday and are trying to put the fire under controlethat broke out Sundayat the Glazhnja reservoir in the municipality of Lipkovo, informed the authorities.
Deputy director KireMihailov said that the fire was reported around noon, after which teams from the company and the Kumanovo Territorial Firefighting Unit immediately intervened.
According to Mihailov, there are indications that the fire was arson.
“The fire affected two sides of a wide road, which indicates that it was deliberately set on both sides. There is no real possibility that the fire will naturally transfer from one side to the other,” Mihailov said.
He expresses suspicion that the fire is related to the company’s recent action to seize illegally cut wood in the region.
The Kumanovo Regional Crisis Management Center reported that the Matejche Police Station reported the fire, which initially spread in three directions – towards the villages of Dumanovce, Goshince and Brest. There was a danger that the fire could also spread to farms in the area, but for now the situation is under control. The teams will remain on the ground throughout Monday in order to completely extinguish the fire.
