A 61-year-old patient is the third to die from the West Nile fever infection on Saturday. The patient had underlying health issues, Macedonian Health Minister Sasho Klekovski said Monday.

A total of 16 patients are hospitalized at Skopje’s Infectious Diseases Clinic. Six of the West Nile fever cases are critical.
So far, 35 cases of West Nile fever have been confirmed in Macedonia, and there are three suspected cases that are in the process of diagnosis. The minister reported that 15 patients have been cured and discharged from the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

The most active area in Europe for West Nile fever is Athens, Greece, and cases in this country have also been registered in the border zones with N. Macedonia.
