Transformation of Skopje’s Old Bazaar worth MKD 29 Millions, says Mexhiti

The transformation project covers an area of ​​1,567 m² and envisages the restoration of the cobblestones with travertine stone, thus preserving the historical authenticity of the Bazaar, as well as the complete modernization of the underground infrastructure, including water supply, sewage, electrical network and optical infrastructure.

The intervention also includes new lighting in a traditional style, arrangement of pedestrian areas and installation of urban equipment, thus creating a functional and attractive space for citizens and visitors.

“After more than five decades without serious interventions, we are starting a real transformation of the Old Bazaar. This is an investment that restores the urban dignity, functionality and liveliness of this historical space,” said Mayor IzetMexhiti.

The total value of the investment is approximately MKD 29 million, with the aim of the Bazaar, for which the first data exists from the 12th century and has been renovated several times after major fires and earthquakes and both world wars, to once again become a modern, functional space with a preserved historical identity.
