U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced late Sunday that it will begin enforcing a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports on April 13 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.

“The blockade will be enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. CENTCOM forces will not impede the freedom of navigation of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted on social media.

The announcement comes after President Donald Trump said the US Navy would begin a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM added that additional information would be provided to commercial shipping companies through an official notice before the blockade comes into effect.
