Prime Minister Zoran Zaev believes the country should not rush to ratify the NATO accession protocol too soon. According to him, Spain’s Prime Minister-designate Pedro Sanchez has promised that the Spanish Parliament will ratify the protocol in mid-January. Zaev points out that the information that Montenegro ratified the protocol before full membership is untrue.

Regarding the VMRO-DPMNE initiative, Zaev adds that the government is the one making the proposals for ratification, and that VMRO-DPMNE is acting politically knowing that it will not happen.

The rejection of the initiative, according to the main opposition VMRO-DPMNE, is evidence that Zaev is afraid of elections. A few days ago, Hristijan Mickoski’s party accused the government of working with NATO membership to delay the April 12 2020 elections.
