With the amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and the
Financing of Terrorism, the cash limit is increased from 500 to 3,000 euros. The
amendments were adopted shortly by the Parliament on December 27, at the
initiative of several MPs.
54 MPs voted in favor of the changes, there were no votes ‘against’ or ‘abstained’.
The Finance Ministry first reduced the cash payment threshold from 15,000 euros to
2,000 euros, then reduced it to 1,000 euros, and from 500 euros in June last year.
The then-Finance Minister Dragan Tevdovski expressed the application of this
measure as one of the reasons for the positive report of the European Commission
on the fight against gray economy.
