Scuba divers from Aquatek’s Ohrid club have discovered a colony crabs carrying eggs at the bottom of Lake Ohrid, indicating that this once endangered species is increasingly found in lake waters.

“During the February winter diving we came across crabs carrying with many eggs. Crabs is considered an endangered species in Lake Ohrid, but it is breeding now and we need to guard it. We discovered the colony on the Potpes-Kaneo move 600 meters from shore and 10 meters deep. The water temperature was seven degrees Celsius”, say Aquatek.
These crabs used to be found on the shore of the lake in the past, but now the shore is usurped and they are rarely found in that area.
