Unequivocal support from Austria for Macedonia’s EU perspective

President Stevo Pendarovski met Thursday with the Austrian National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka, who is paying a day-long official visit to North Macedonia.

Pendarovski and Sobotka exchanged opinions on overall bilateral relations between North Macedonia and Austria, concluding that two countries foster excellent bilateral relations in several areas of mutual interest.

Pendarovski voiced expectations on further boosting of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, as an important aspect in strengthening of interstate cooperation.

At the meeting, Pendarovski emphasized the importance of Austria’s strong, unequivocal and principled support for the European perspective of North Macedonia and the region. Moreover, in this regard, he voiced hopes that soon after adoption of new enlargement methodology, a date will be set for opening accession negotiations, which is in the interest of the stability of the region and the European Union.

Pendarovski and Sobotka shared views on the current situation in the region as well as on the challenges emerging from illegal migration.
