Two children with symptoms similar to Kawasaki syndrome, also known as Kawasaki-
like, have been registered in the country in the last two months, said Dr. Aspazija
Sofijanova, head of the Intensive Care Unit and Therapy at the Pediatric Clinic in
Skopje. One child was eight, and the other five years old.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said it is investigating a possible link
between COVID-19 and Kawasaki disease. A form of the disease near Kawasaki
disease has caused the first death of a child in France.
"Initial hypotheses are that this inflammatory syndrome may be related to COVID-19.
We call on all medical professionals in the world to work together with the authorities
and the WHO to better analyze this syndrome in children. It is essential to urgently
study the characteristics of the syndrome in order to find a cause-and-effect
relationship and to present treatments," said WHO Director-General Tedros
Adhanom Ghebreyesus
