The two existing operators, due to the conditions caused by COVID-19, are in favor of postponing the procedure for allocating radio frequencies for 5G for next year, while the responsible regulator believes that it should be implemented as soon as possible.

This was announced by the Agency for Electronic Communications in a statement after analyzing the remarks and comments submitted to it during the public hearing organized by this regulatory body regarding the planned granting of 5G approvals.

AEC announces in the document that the procedure for granting approvals for 5G technology will begin by the end of the year and will be through an auction, during which individual approvals will be offered for all bands. This is because the operators are interested in different bands, i.e. no operator is interested in all bands.

AEC states that the approvals for national/regional coverage will be granted for a period of 15 years with the possibility of extension to additional five years.
