Ensuring economic sustainability of the media, creating mechanisms to ensure transparency of Internet companies and enhancing media and information literacy capacities that enable citizens to recognize, value and protect journalism as a vital part of information as a public good are the three key sub-themes. on this year’s celebration of the World Press Freedom Day, informs the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services (AVMS).
The World Press Freedom Day, under the auspices of the United Nations, is marked today under the motto “Information as a public good” and aims to affirm the importance of this issue and to point out the need to strengthen journalism.
– The current COVID-19 pandemic has a negative impact on the economic performance of the media and media pluralism and contributes to the global emergence of “infodemia”, which now more than ever is necessary to maintain and protect media independence and promote reporting based on facts that is crucial for the public good on a global level, the AVMS said in a statement.
