This year’s Tokyo Summer Olympics opened Friday with a grand ceremony for the first time without spectators in the stands. Macedonia will be represented by a total of eight athletes, two of whom will not be part of today’s ceremony.
Japan has a high rate of coronavirus cases, which is why sports fans were not allowed to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Some of the disciplines have started, although today the games will officially mark their beginning.
For the fourth time in history, the international sports spectacle will be held on Japanese soil. Previously this was the case in Tokyo 1964, Sapporo 1972 and Nagano 1998.
The Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 were postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
