The IPH monthly report recorded three cases of West Nile fever in Macedonia, which resulted in inflammation of the brain. It is about two children and one elderly person.
The data was published in the report for the month of August.
According to the report, the West Nile fever virus was detected in the laboratory in an 8-year-old girl from Strumica, an 11-year-old boy from Struga and a 69-year-old man from Stajkovci.
All were hospitalized for inflammation of the brain.
West Nile fever is transmitted by mosquito bites, and in a small number of infected people it presents with severe neurological symptoms.
