Macedonia is moderately prepared in energy policy, says European Commission

Macedonia is moderately prepared in the field of energy policy, some progress has been made, especially in aligning with the Third Energy Package, and steps have been taken to adopt a National Energy and Climate Plan and investments in renewable energy sources, but not all of last year’s recommendations have been fully implemented , the European Commission claims in the country’s Progress Report in the field of energy.

As for the upcoming year in the field of energy, it is recommended that the country increase the technical and engineering staff in the Department of Energy in the Ministry of Economy and the Energy Agency, to adopt and implement the law on energy efficiency and to complete the separation (certification) of systems for gas transmission.

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (ERC) is said to be operational, but its independence has been hampered by political interference.
