Macedonia recorded three times more serious attacks on journalists in 2020

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) registered two physical attacks and 12 different forms of verbal threats to life and other intimidation in 2020, so the number of serious attacks in the country is 14 and is almost three times higher than in 2019.

One physical attack and one death threat were registered in 2021, as well as three serious obstructions of journalists in the process of reporting on the local elections, or a total of five cases as of November. A characteristic of this and last year is that most of the attacks and threats are directed at women journalists, the AJM director Dragan Sekulovski.
