The SDSM Central Board is to hold a session on Friday to discuss the resignation of party leader Zoran Zaev. The session was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed after the Government declared three days of national mourning due to the fatal bus accident in Bulgaria.

If Zaev’s resignation is verified, a procedure is launched to elect new SDSM leader. According to the statute of the party, a 15-day deadline is then in place to schedule the intra-party election. All parties have the right to vote in secret ballot at a direct election. The new party leader, as Zaev has said, will also be the new PM-designate.

Part of SDSM membership doesn’t back Zaev’s resignation, which was announced after the party got poor results in the local elections.
