Minister of Defense Radmila Shekerinska and the Ambassador of the United States of America Kate Marie Byrnes will sign an agreement between North Macedonia and the United States, which supports the respect of human rights in the operation of security forces.

The agreement stems from the so-called Leahy Laws, which prohibit the US State Department and the US Department of Defense from providing military assistance, support, training and exercises to units or individuals of security forces from other countries for which there are credible allegations of human rights violations, and no steps have been taken to prosecute the perpetrator or perpetrators.

Named after its proponent Senator Patrick Leahy, this well-known U.S. instrument virtually enables the immediate cessation of US financial assistance in the event of credible evidence of human rights abuses by military or police units, or members of the aid recipient state.
