Public debt stands at 60.9 percent of GDP

At the end of 2021, the total public debt of Macedonia amounted to 60.9 percent of GDP, the Finance Ministry informed today.

According to the Ministry, this is a reduction of 0.1 percent compared to the end of 2020. The Ministry reports that the decline amount to 3.8 percent during the third quarter, where the Ministry also reported a double digit GDP growth rate.

The Ministry of Finance says that they remain committed to positioning the public debt below the Maastricht criterion of 60 percent of GDP, so according to the projections of the Public Debt Management Strategy in 2026, it should be reduced to 57.7 percent of GDP.
