The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Ljupcho Nikolovski informed on social media that the hunting only for wild boars has been extended until March 31, although the hunting season ended on January 31.

“This decision is in accordance with the measures taken by the Government and the Food and Veterinary Agency, in order to prevent and spread African swine fever, which is present in two farms in our country,” reads Nikolovski’s announcement.

This decision met with a series of negative reactions from hunters throughout Macedonia and they called this move catastrophic because it is mating season and over 90 percent of wild boars are pregnant.

The Food and Veterinary Agency will oblige the concessionaires of the hunting grounds to intensify the shooting of this game.
