Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi announced at Wednesday’s press conference that it was expected to prevent the increase of the prices of the basic food products by setting import margins for the wholesale and retail products.

Bekteshi announced that the current measure to freeze prices will be valid until the end of February.

“This and next week we will have direct meetings with all parties involved, especially with producers and traders of food products, those products that are highlighted in the decision to freeze, to find a way not to increase prices, will probably go by defining certain margins in wholesale and retail trade,” Bekteshi said.

The decision of the Government of North Macedonia to freeze the prices of basic products on November 9 comes after months of rising prices and the declaration of a crisis in the energy sector.
