The Independent Trade Union for Education, Science and Culture of the Republic of Macedonia – SONK yesterday held its 4th regular session, at which it performed a detailed analysis of the Minutes of the meetings held at the level of trade unions of SONK, regarding the Decision on General Strike.

“At the session, the conclusion was inevitable that the Council of SONK respects the social dialogue and that in the past period had several meetings, both with the Government and the social partners MES and MLSP, to harmonize wages with the minimum wage at the national level. But, unfortunately, in this time period, in terms of our requests, there is no result. The unacceptable and unargued attitude and basis of the line ministries, additionally affects the determination of the SONK membership to persevere in the legitimate struggle to achieve its demands. After the extensive discussion at the session, taking into account the declaration of a huge percentage of membership for organizing a strike, the SONK Council unanimously adopted a decision to organize and hold a general strike, which would begin on April 11, 2022,” reads SONK’s press release.
