With the help of properly set banking regulations and safeguards created in the past, the domestic banking sector has remained in good shape during these two years, when the domestic economy is facing several shocks with a negative impact. Thus, credit growth has not slowed down at all, as has happened in previous crisis episodes. On the contrary, it accelerated moderately, with the second half of last year showing greater support for the corporate sector, said the Governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska in an interview with Marili.

“The banking system provides solid support throughout the entire pandemic period. It is true that in the beginning the credit support was more focused on the population, and less on the corporate sector, but from the second half of last year there is more support on the corporate sector. In 2021, on an annual basis, if the total credit growth is around 8%, the growth in the corporate sector is higher and is 9%. The data from the beginning of this year show the continuation of these trends,” says NB Governor Angelovska-Bezhoska.
