European Enlargement Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi welcomed the vote in the Parliament which, as he wrote, gives the Government a clear mandate to start the first intergovernmental conference between North Macedonia and the EU.
“We look forward to opening the accession negotiations with N. Macedonia,” said Várhelyi.
The President of the European Council Charles Michel sent a similar greeting, saying that ‘this is a significant step for North Macedonia and the EU’.
