Citizens paid over EUR 18.6 million to private healthcare for COVID testing due to lack of available appointments in public healthcare

In the conditions of a pandemic, due to the non-provision of more appointments in the Public Health Institutions (PHI) and unsigned contracts with the Private Health Institutions (PHI) for the diagnosis of COVID-19, not enough health services have been provided to the insured at the expense of the Fund.

Calculated according to the lowest charged price of 1,400 denars per test and 819,240 tests performed in two years, more than 18.6 million euros have been poured from citizens into private healthcare, according to the Final Audit Report from the audit of financial statements and audit of compliance for 2020 of the Health Insurance Fund of (FZOM).
