The Serbian customs on Monday, in cooperation with the police at the Preshevo border crossing with N. Macedonia, prevented the attempt of two travelers to smuggle gold jewelry across the border hidden in diapers estimated at more than 2.2 million dinars (18,752 euros).
As the Customs Administration informed, the offense was discovered when a Volkswagen Passat vehicle with Swiss license plates, in which a young married couple was traveling from the direction of N. Macedonia to Switzerland, was singled out for a detailed inspection at the entrance to this border crossing in Serbia.
Since the value of the discovered jewelry exceeds a third of the value of the vehicle, with the court decision, in addition to the gold, the vehicle, valued at over a million Serbian dinars, was also permanently confiscated.
