The Assumption of the Virgin Mary, popularly known as the Great Virgin, is among the twelve major Orthodox Christian holidays. Due to the great cult that the Mother of God has among believers, this holiday is celebrated very solemnly with large public gatherings.
Among the more significant holidays that the Macedonian people celebrate with special attention are several holidays of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of the Savior Jesus Christ. Because of that, several churches throughout ethnic Macedonia bear her name.
The faithful believe that Virgin Mary is the protector of mothers and helps women during childbirth.
