Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska said at a press conference Tuesday evening that the teams of the City of Skopje, public enterprises and the Fire Brigade responded appropriately after yesterday’s storm. The crisis headquarters was called to the field, and the main problem for the fact that the whole of Skopje was flooded is the storm sewage, which her predecessors did not solve properly.
“The biggest challenge was due to the storm sewage, which is inadequate for what we currently have in Skopje. In the coming days, we will come out with an analysis of how we will solve these challenges. There are several examples, some of the streets are newly built and there are problems, and some of them are reconstructed, but the storm sewerage has not been reconstructed,” said Arsovska.
The Skopje Mayor added that during the storm, the Fire Department rescued 20 people, some of whom were stuck in their vehicles in the underpass under Skenderbeg Square, and some of them were stuck under fallen trees.
