Citizenship is issued based on the approval of several state institutions, and there were positive opinions about the Ukrainian politician’s citizenship from all relevant institutions, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski pointed out on Saturday.
“When issuing that citizenship to Oleksandr Onishchenko, all positive evaluations from all relevant institutions were obtained in accordance with the procedure. Based on those positive opinions, the Government made a decision to grant citizenship”, said Kovachevski when asked about why citizenship was granted to a Ukrainian politician who is accused of embezzlement and is on the US blacklist.
It is a usual practice, Kovachevski added, as a government to ask for other investigations to see if there is any other information that should be taken into consideration.
