Skopje was ranked third among the most polluted cities in the world at noon on Friday according to the IQAir platform, which monitors air pollution in real time.
With an air quality index of 182, air pollution in Skopje is currently harmful to health, and worse air than Skopje’s is registered only in Lahore in Pakistan and New Delhi in India.
Of the other cities in the region, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, which is in the fourth place, and Belgrade in Serbia, which is in the eighth place, were also in the first 10 worst positions.
According to the website of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, official measuring stations throughout Skopje do not provide data on air pollution since December 21. The only one currently functioning is the one in Gazi Baba, which at the last measurement at 12 o’clock today showed 166 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) of PM10 suspended particles in the air.
