There is no room for panic, so far there is no confirmed case of the new COVID-19 strain called Kraken in the country, the head of the Commission for Infectious Diseases AleksandarPetlichkovskitold the media.
“The last sequencing of the positive COVID samples was done on December 5th and this strain, Kraken, was not detected in that round. For now, there is no exact information on when the next one would be, the tests are done approximately every month. There would probably be a new round of sequencing in the following days,” said Petlichkovski.
According to the commission’s head, judging from the data taken from the USA and Europe, no dramatic change is expected even with this new variant.
