The Ministry of Health is not the most responsible institution for the death of the patient with cystic fibrosis, who did not get the Trikafta medication, said the Macedonian Health Minister BekimSali on Thursday.
Asked if he felt responsible for the death of the young man from Bitola, the minister said that they reported and requested support from the Government and the Ministry of Finance in time, in order to respond positively to the request for treatment of patients with cystic fibrosis.
“I am in constant communication with all members of the Association and they know my willingness to solve the problem, which unfortunately was caused by other factors, not by the Ministry of Health. The ministry does not buy the drugs, but organizes the system and legally enables the granting of authorizations to the institutions, what they can dispose of and how to organize themselves,” said Minister Sali.
Sali pointed out that amendments are being made to three laws that will enable direct negotiation with drug manufacturers.
Earlier, he posted on Facebook that today MKD 140 million have been secured from the budget for the purchase of the Trikafta medication for eight patients with cystic fibrosis.
