In the past years, 296,810 illegally built buildings have been legalized in the country, and solutions have been issued for them with documentation that included a request to the municipality, preparation of a geodetic report and confirmation of paid utility bills.
A new legalization law has been in the parliamentary procedure for a long time, and after the recent devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, experts in the field indicate that possible future legalizations must be done with an architectural project and control of statics.
“Now this is not necessary, but if a new law is passed to legalize illegal constructions, it must not be allowed to do it only with a geodetic report, but with an architectural project and control of the static elements to be able to guarantee that those objects are safe for living,” said Nikola Velkovski, from the Construction Association at the Economic Chamber of N. Macedonia.
