Mayors of Saraj, Blerim Bejeti and Chair, Visar Ganiu, MP Izet Mexheti, former Gostivar mayor Nevzat Beita and Saranda Imeri, who served as the party’s secretary for gender equality, are no longer members of the leadership of the ruling Democratic Union for Integration (DUI).
After Friday night’s meeting, the DUI Central Presidency on Saturday expressed “regret for the decision of the five members of the Presidency to withdraw themselves”, as stated in the press release, a decision these five officials made at the meeting on April 1, when decided to act as a faction in the party.
After DUI’s announcement, the faction issued a written response on Saturday evening, in which it is said that they learned from the media about the meeting and the decisions, which they say were made at a secret meeting and are unconstitutional.
“We did not ‘self-exclude’, but left the meeting on April 1st as a sign of protest as a result of the disrespect and manipulation of the party statute. We were not invited to the meeting as members of the Presidency, which is a violation of the statute and legal obligations of the party bodies. This kind of management of the party body is arbitrary and undemocratic”, reads the press release issued by the so-called “Fire Group”.
