Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs FatmirBytyqi said Tuesday he does not expect major fluctuations and price hikes of food products after the cap is removed as of June 1 but added the Government would monitor developments and react if this happened.
“All the prerequisites for the prices to remain at the same level and maybe even drop are here. All the circumstances that led to the price hikes are now gone and the electricity price is not at the previous levels. The price of raw materials at world markets has dropped. This means that the producers and the traders have the conditions in place to maintain prices as during the cap, and even reduce them. We have seen that the prices of vegetables have dropped by even 40 percent compared to the capped ones,” Bytyqisaid.
