U.S. State Department blacklists Struga Mayor Merko

The U.S. State Department has decided to declare the Mayor of StrugaRamizMerko inadmissible for enter the United States “due to his involvement in significant corruption”.

The written statement of the State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller reads that Merko as mayor misused funds and interfered in judicial and other public processes.

This kind of behavior affected the reduction of the population’s trust in the “democratic institutions of North Macedonia”. With this, we want to remind all institutions of their task in the fight against corruption, reads the statement. The ban also applies to Merko’s wife and three children.
