A pre-trial judge at the Skopje-based Criminal Court ordered 30-day detention for the former deputy director at the Public Revenue Office (PRO) and DUI official Ismet Guri, as well as two other suspects in the investigation that is being conducted against 15 people suspected of tax evasion, criminal association and money laundering.

The detention was ordered at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office due to possibility of fleeing the country, hiding, falsifying or destroying evidence material, or hindering investigation by influencing any witnesses and accomplices. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects have misled the tax authority – PRO with the intention of obtaining an illegal property benefit for themselves, making an unfounded request and receiving a VAT refund of around EUR 840,000.
