The constitutionality of the legal amendments on the overtime work of the highways to be built by the Bechtel – Enka consortium will be investigated. The Constitutional Court is establishing a case following an initiative submitted by the Helsinki Committee. The Labor Law was among the five that underwent changes using the European flag to meet the deadlines in the Agreement for the construction of Corridors 8 and 10D.
In the initiative of the Committee, emphasis is placed on the additionally contested article, which foresees an exception from the duration of overtime longer than 8 hours per week and 190 hours per year for work on projects of strategic and national importance. According to the petitioners, this creates legal uncertainty and room for interpretation and manipulation of the total duration of overtime work, without establishing an upper limit.
