The salary law, which will regulate the salaries of officials and elected officials, is being drafted, Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski confirmed Thursday and added that in April of this year, the officials did not raise their salaries themselves, but were in compliance with the decision of the Constitutional Court.

The PM added that the salaries of 44 members of the Government, mayors, MPs, judges, prosecutors, etc. were previously frozen unconstitutionally and unlawfully by the VMRO-DPMNE-led Government, which the then-constitutional court never discussed.

“The current one argued and said that it is illegal to freeze salaries, because it has come to a situation where the minister of finance and the president of a country have a lower salary than a secretary in AEK or a director of a public company,” Kovachevski pointed out.
